                                               Abstract
Background Infant colic is one many FGIDs that occur in infants. Even though this condition is self-limiting
in nature, inappropriate therapy affect the baby’s quality of life. Hence, diagnosis and therapeutic approach
becomes essential. The current diagnostic criteria is Rome IV which was published in 2016. Objective Data
regarding Indonesian pediatricians’ understanding of infant colic according to Rome IV criteria and their
therapeutic approach in managing infant colic has not been reported. Hence this research was conducted to
fill in those gaps in information. Methods This is a cross-sectional study which utilizes questionnaire to assess
pediatricians’ knowledge and therapeutic approach towards the management of infant colic. The questionnaire
were given out to subjects which were randomly selected. The scores of both knowledge and therapeutic
approach are analyzed with variables which are: years of clinical experience, institution accreditation, place
of practice, and source of information. The analysis was performed using SPSS 20.0. Results Seventy five
of 131 (57.3%) pediatrician claims to use Rome IV in their daily practice, their mean knowledge score was
14.24 (SD 3.32) of a total 20 points. From all 131 pediatricians, their mean knowledge score is 14.38 (SD
3.17) of 20 and therapeutic approach score is 11.50 (SD 2.80) of 16. Conclusion There were no significant
relationship between the other variables with the knowledge nor therapeutic approach scores. The results of
pediatricians’ knowledge and approach towards infant colic was not optimal yet, so those with interest must
improve the means for effective learning to allow improvement better that what is now achieved.

Efficacy of Lactose-Free Formula in Acute Diarrheal Management

                                               Abstract
Background Acute diarrhea is the most common gastrointestinal disease in children under five years of age
with high morbidity and mortality risk. The use of lactose-free formula in the management of children with
acute diarrhea was said to accelerate the diarrheal resolution time. Objective To determine the efficacy of
lactose-free formula in pediatric patients with acute diarrhea. Methods A comprehensive literature search
was conducted through PubMed, Proquest, Web of Science, and CINAHL Plus Database from inception to
July 11, 2021. The study selection process was carried out under PRISMA 2020 guidelines based on several
eligibility criteria. The quality of the included study was further assessed using Modified Jadad Scores.
Results Fifteen RCTs were included in this study involving 1,390 children with acute diarrhea. Shorter
recovery time (MD -0.21; 95%CI -0.50 to 0.08) were observed in patients receiving lactose-free formula.
However, this finding was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). The subgroup analysis showed that lactose-
free formula significantly shortened the recovery time compared to ORS group (MD -0.70; 95%CI -0.98 to
            -0.41). Furthermore, lactose-free formula also significantly reduced the amount of stool output (MD = -0.61;
95%CI -0.86 to -0.36) and the incidence of persistent diarrhea more than seven days (OR 0.22; 95%CI 0.10
to 0.51) compared to the control group. Conclusion Lactose-free formula as dietary management for acute
diarrhea in children can reduce stool output and the incidence of persistent diarrhea more than seven days.
It also may shorten the recovery time.
