Abstract
Background Covid-19 infection has a sustainable impact on various aspects of life, including pediatric
resident’s learning activities. It is necessary to measure the burden of Covid-19 infection on them. Objective
To measure the incidence and risk factors of Covid-19 infection in pediatric residents. Methods Determination
of incidence was carried out cross-sectionally. A case-control analysis with age and gender matching from
a sample subset was conducted to identify the risk factor. Questionnaires were collected online via a google
form in September 2021. Results The incidence of Covid-19 in pediatric residents was 35.1%. In the infected
group, 91.2% were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms; overweight (including obesity) were 26.4%;
comorbidities in 14.7%; running errands at Gastrohepatology subdivision and senior-level (20.6% and 55.9%
respectively); the estimated sources of transmission were workplace (67.6%); two of the most common risky
behaviors were incorrect and uncontinuous use of masks (55.9%) and eating together (14.7%). Most of
them (73.5%) felt that their studies were hampered by being infected with Covid-19. Multivariate analysis
found overweight as a risk factor for Covid-19 infection with OR 5.9 (95%CI 1.1 to 30.2). Conclusion
The higher risk of Covid-19 infection in pediatric residents is reflected by 1/3 of our residents confirmed
with Covid-19 which hampered their studies with overweight as a risk factor. Special academy policies are
needed for pediatric residents who are infected with Covid-19.

Abstract
Background To achieve the competence in subspecialty fellowship training in pediatrics, the fellows require
enough both number and variation of patients and procedures. The pandemic of Covid-19 had disrupted
many health services in teaching hospitals which might impact the capability of fellows completing their
training. Objective To evaluate the impact of pandemic on study period and fellows’ perspective of study
process during pandemic. Methods We compared the percentage of graduates who completed fellowship on
time before and after the pandemic. We also distributed the questionnaire to fellows about the impacts of the
pandemic. Results Data from an academic report showed that the percentage rate of graduates who completed
fellowship on time fluctuated. Before the pandemic, the rate was 87%, in the first semester pandemic 100%,
then decreased to 66% but in the last semester increased to 95%. Sixty-six fellows in pediatrics subspecialty
responded to the questionnaire about impact of pandemic. When asked about online learning, only 21.2 %
fellows said they had problems learning. Supervision from consultants was still good as mentioned by 87.9%
fellows. The decreased number of patients was observed by 37.9% fellows. Majority of fellows (77.3%)
stated that during a pandemic they can achieve their competence and 92.4% also stated that academic staff
really helped them to achieve it. The obstacles that fellows complained were the signal connection, the device
and timing of online learning. Half of the fellows felt that the pandemic had an impact on their thesis but the
majority (92.4%) said that the teachers really help to cope with the problems. Conclusion Pandemic has an
impact on fellowship training programs but the majority of fellows stated that the facility of online learning
and the role of academic staff supervision could overcome the problems.
