                                               Abstract
Background Clinical manifestations of COVID -19 in children vary greatly and can be influenced by
epidemiological factors. The presence of comorbidities is also a matter of concern related to the outcome
of the patient. Objective To describe the clinical profile of COVID-19 and evaluate the influence of
comorbidities on outcomes of COVID-19 in pediatric patients at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang.
Methods A cross-sectional study was done by reviewing the medical records of all pediatric patients with
confirmed COVID-19, based on rRT-PCR, and hospitalized between April 1, 2020, and Maret 31, 2021.
Results A total of 55 patients were included, with female 54.54%. Based on the severity of the disease, we
found asymptomatic cases 7.28%, mild 49.09%, moderate 30.90%, severe 7.28% and critical 5.45%. The
most common symptom was fever 50.90%, followed by cough 45.55%, fatigue 41.81%, dyspnea 36.36%,
sore throat 29.09%, nausea or vomiting 18.18% and diarrhea 5.45%. Out of 55 patients, 35 (63.63%) had
comorbid. The most comorbid was malignancy 11/35 followed by malnutrition 6/35, congenital disorder
6/38, autoimmune disease 5/35, pulmonary tuberculosis 4/35, kidney disease 3/35, genetic disorder 3/35
and post-trauma 2/35. Death was reported on 3/ 35 with malignancy, kidney disease and malnutrition as the
comorbidities Conclusions Clinical manifestations of COVID-19 in children differ widely, with fever and
respiratory symptoms as the most frequent symptoms. All death cases have comorbidities.

                                               Abstract
Background COVID-19 pandemic has been global emergency for more than a year and still many countries
are struggling against it. People at all ages can be infected by this disease, including children. Although most
pediatric cases are known to be asymptomatic or mild symptoms, the number of severe cases and deaths had
increased recently. Indonesia, among other country in Southeast Asia, has the highest cases. To date, data on
pediatric cases remain poorly defined. Objective To determine the characteristics and outcomes of COVID-19
infection in children at Wangaya General Hospital. Methods This descriptive study was conducted at Wangaya
General Hospital from July 2020 – June 2021 which included all of children suspected COVID-19, using
census method. Data was gathered from patients’ medical records. Results Of total 34 children, 23 (67.6%)
were confirmed COVID-19 in which 14 children (60.8%) were known to have household exposure. The
mean age of all cases was 7-year-old and 24 cases (70.6%) were male. Clinical manifestation in confirmed
case were fever (56.5%), nausea and vomiting (39.1%), sore throat (8.6%), and anosmia (4.3%), while
in suspected cases were cough (54.5%), diarrhea (45.4%), rhinitis (36.3%), and dyspnea (18.1%). Most
confirmed cases were treated with zinc and vitamin C (78,2%), followed by antibiotics (73.9%). Majority of
children didn’t have any comorbidity (88.2%) with 33 (97.1%) were recovered. Conclusion COVID-19 in
children were mostly mild symptoms with good prognosis. However, early detection is necessary especially
            in those with comorbid disease.
